I really liked this, although it took me a few attempts to get into because I was reading other books at the time and kept forgetting to return to this. When I eventually made a proper attempt though it was one of those books I just sit and read for hours.
In a nutshell it’s a really engrossing story about a horrible group of people; Even the main protagonist I’m undecided on how much sympathy I feel for. There is nothing that shocking (nowadays) and everything is entirely believable - which makes it all the sadder. I still found myself really rooting for a number of characters to come good, but like real life everyone is far from perfect.
As per Lovely Bones it just left a crushing miserable feeling after I’d finished it that hung around for a few days: Human beings at their worst. And most normal.
